the start

This is just a short starting message concerning what will the blog look like and what is its aim. I'm writing this message in English just to know what people will come in and read and discuss. But I promise, the languages will vary so that everyone has something from it.This blog should serve as a means of discussion that is less academic than what we find in journals and at the universities. On the other hand, there sometimes will be a need for a more academic style varying from one topic to another.

I want to write mainly about the culture I live in, look at it critically and compare it to other societies and cultures. But not only that. I want to look at my identity and identity generally, as it is a crucial part of ourselves. And this will be hopefully a sort of general idea connecting all the reports and discussions as our identity is created via all kinds of discourses. And I also hope it will help me to find myself as sometimes I have the feeling I can do it only via writing.

One of the aspects creating our identity is our nationality (although, in my opinion, it is a pretty artificial social construct - nationhood); nonetheless, the borders of nationhood and nationality are what I am encountering now living in Prague and therefore next report will by on nationhood, its connections to language and how it is part of my identity (an unwilling part) and what ways can be used to deconstruct it. I will write it in Slovak and English and I hope there will be a following discussion.
